It is not often that we get excited enough to announce upcoming festivals. This is partly because of the sheer volume that occur & also the fact they often don’t tickle our fancy. However, a notable exception is Extrema Outdoor Belgium. The festival is the brainchild of one of Belgium’s (and quite possibly Europe’s) most underground electronic promoters. The team that own Labyrinth club, as well as a record label & various other ventures, have been influential in Belgium’s continued popularity as a dance music destination. Their flagship event XO Belgium has been feverishly establishing itself as the countries premier house & techno event.
This year will mark their 10th anniversary with the festival announcing it will be taking place across 3 days; 29 – 31 May 2020. Given the internal pursuit of perfection & self-improvement by the production team, we can almost guarantee several huge announcements in the coming weeks. However, the first noticeable change is the addition of a third full festival day. Allowing for extra artists & more Extrema.
The only way to expand was to turn the first day into a full festival day. From 2020, Extrema will have 3 full days starting from 12 noon and ending at midnight. For those looking to go all night, the after-party for camping guests will, of course, be retained.
Having attended the festival two years previously this really is one of electronic music’s hidden gems. Given you can take the Eurostar for a nominal fee and get from London Paddington to the festival site in 3 hours 26 minutes its accessibility is as appealing as the state of the art production & world-class line ups. The line up will be announced in early 2020. However, in previous years guests have included: Sven Vath, Kolsch, Michael Mayer, Maceoplex, Sasha, Pan-Pot, Patrice Baumel, Stephen Bodzin, Solomun, Amelie Lens and a whole lot more.
