However we also live for the underground, the up and coming and the extraordinary. As part of our Club Watch series we pick the 5 essential UK parties that should be on your radar this weekend.
Patchwork Night at Giant Steps, London
Born back in 2005, Patchwork is the brain child of Swiss DJ Sassy J. Originally a party designed to unite different musical universes, dynamics and people it became evident Sassy J had to take the party on the road to achieve these goals. In 2018 Patchwork arrived in London for its debut show and has since been a regular fixture of the highly competitive London scene.
This weekend Patchworks heads to Giant Steps so expect a chilled vibe combined with a quality sound system. The perfect combination for day time pre summer vibes. On vibe duty is of course Sassy J herself as well as Dego. The UK innovator thrives on pushing the listeners sensical boundaries as he blends genres from across the board. Intimate positive vibes, deep music and plenty of smiles all expected at Patchwork.
Nothing More To Say Turn 4 at The Tunnels, Aberdeen
When you think of Scottish rave, Sub club tends to be the first name that springs to mind. However the reputation of the scene has not been built on one name alone. In fact brands like Nothing More To Say who ply their trade in Aberdeen are one of the reasons Scotland has such international pedigree. This weekend marks the fourth birthday for the raucous rave crew and as usual they will celebrate in style.
Taking over the subterranean rave cave best known as The Tunnels, they have invited two of dance musics most formidable female talents. Eclair Fifi, who herself is Scottish through and through returns after previously causing road blocks for the Nothing More To Say crew. She will be joined on the decks by Peach. The rising star and NTS resident effortlessly bridges the gap between house, techno and electro so expect full throttle raving from the get go.
Twitch presents Cead at The Palm House, Belfast
Twitch are promoters with pedigree. They have been through thick and thin and the fact they are throwing parties 12 years on is testament to their abilities as promoters. Belfast like much of the Scottish scene is about fast paced in and out raving. Arrive early, have it off and done in time for the draconian licensing laws. Twitch have mastered the magic and now provide the cities very best dance parties.
After a recent sell out show with Avalon Emerson and Or:la, they invite the latter back this weekend. This time Twitch will act as the launch pad for Or:la’s latest imprint ‘Cead’. The labels first release comes from Dutch artist Lewski, making it only fitting he join the launch.Expect to hear a dynamic cross of house, techno and clattering electro cuts throughout, for a party not to be missed.
Lyster presents Efdemin at Soup Kitchen, Manchester
Soup Kitchen in Manchester is the maker and breaker of the very best underground music. There is very few venues that have such consistency in booking up and coming talent with left field underground sounds. This is in part down to the carefully selected promoters working with in the venue.
Lyster, YOUTH records boss and NTS Radio host is one such promoter. As an integral part of the Soup Kitchens Curator series he has invited Efdemin. The Berlin born DJ who holds a residency at the world renowned Berghain is no stranger to The RRP. His latest track, “New Atlantis” released on Ostgut Ton recently scored a place on our weekly wax series. With the record collections and technical knowledge of these two artists combined their is no doubt this will be one of the UK’s stand out shows.
Sisbis presents at 24 Kitchen Street, Liverpool
Eager to give women a bigger pizza slice of the Liverpool music scene Sisbis was born. Since its inauguration it has been pushing the benchmark for Liverpools vibrant electronic scene as well as flying the flag for woman in dance music. Having bought some of the dance musics best female artists to the cities various venues, Sisbis this week return to their home 24 Kitchen Street. Headline duties fall to Dutch born Carista. Ever since she taught herself to mix via a youtube tutorial age 18, Carista has been a hit. She brings nothing but positive energy, distinctive taste and the sound of Detroit house, UK broken-beat vibes and bass.
The second headliner is South African Selina Nongaliphe Oliphant. AKA, SNO. The Banana Hill regular and a favourite of Manchester based Reform Radio will bring an impressive record collection. Showcasing her take on South African, R&B, soul and disco. Finally, support comes from Sisbis resident Giovanna. The woman behind the movement and the infectious party starter the combined energy will soar off the charts.
