In this weeks edition of Introducing, we spoke with Hot Creations exciting new artist Malikk as he shared his story, his struggles and his passions.

Your passion for music started from your childhood, what was it that pushed you towards a career in the music industry?

When I was a little boy I always had a Walkman on me. I was so passionate that one day my father bought me a double cassette player, I had fun playing music even if it was impossible to do I admit it but it made me happy.
The day it clicked was when I saw vinyl decks for the first time. That’s when I knew I wanted to be a DJ.

What DJs and artists have inspired you the most to do what you do? And how do they do it?

Laurent Garnier, Jeff Mills and many others.
Laurent Garnier when I saw him play for the first time he was so passionate, there was something magical about him, I love the way he mixes and I wanted to feel the same way. He is always connected with the scene and his music is well chosen and we are from the same region. Jeff Mills has the ability to convey unexpected emotions, to guide people through these mixes and I love that side of it.

Your latest release is a two track EP on Hot Creations, can you tell us about it and how it came about?

I made my Hot Creations EP during the confinement. I spent a lot of time in the studio and I also enjoyed my family. I guess it couldn’t have been easy for everyone, for me it was very hard for me because I didn’t have any dates left.
The only good thing was that I was able to do my EP on Hot creations. I was finally able to make my dream come true.
I don’t think it was because of the confinement but spending all that time in the studio helped me and I can even tell you that there will be another EP coming out on another great label. Stay tuned.

What has been the hardest thing you have had to overcome in your career so far?

The most difficult thing was covid-19 and still today.

I don’t know when it will stop but it’s been almost 1 year since the club festivals ….is not running anymore and I hope 2021 will be a better year.

With releases on Hot Creations, Toolroom, Warung Recordings and LouLou to name a few, what advice would you give to other young aspiring producers looking to get signed?

I would tell them to never give up and to always keep going.
I was always told that hard work and perseverance always wins.

You have played parties in South America and across Europe. What city stood out the most to you and why?

I love to play in Europe, but when I play South America I escape, there is a festive atmosphere that reigns, welcoming and very receptive.
I loved Argentina and Brazil in Argentina. I loved Buenos Aires and Mar del plata and the south of Brazil. I would say some cities in the state of Santa Catarina, Florianopolis, Curitiba, Itajai and many others.

If you could produce a track with an artist past or present who would it be and why?

I would love to do a studio session with Jamie Jones. I love his work very much. I hope he will read this part of this interview :)))))
